The Gibson Grabber was so-named because its sliding pickup, which you could “grab” and move along the strings for different tones.
It has a bolt-on neck (first time for Gibson basses), it's made of maple which contribute to a brighter sound and a full range of treble tone.
Gibson G-3 is rare because it's a Grabber with modified pickups and electronics.
